With the Mueller Report out and Trump being cleared of Russia Collusion, the new talk of the town has to do with Trump’s Obstruction of Justice case. Personally, I find it hilarious how the media echo chamber has completely dropped talk of Trump colluding with Russia entirely. To make matters worse, there are followers of the media who completely lack the awareness that the media completely shifted the issue overnight. Now everyone is throwing in their two cents on why Mueller included the obstruction argument.
If you have been following me, I really don’t like spending too much time on things I find to be a complete waste of time. Mueller’s Obstruction of Justice referral is a complete waste of time. Barr had already cleared Trump of it and the material evidence in the case is now public per the release of the report. It has been spun in many different ways and has already been used to change public opinion. I have explained this in more detail in The Chill Pill post.
On May 1, 2019, Will Chamberlain from Human Events wrote about Barr how outfoxed Mueller when it came to the obstruction case. I hadn’t really paid much attention to the article because Mueller left the decision of obstruction up to Barr. What was interesting was that on June 8, 2018 Barr wrote a memorandum to DAG Rod Rosenstein about Mueller’s “Obstruction” Theory. The memo focuses on 18 U.S.C. § 1512(c)(2) which makes Barr look prophetic in Chamberlain’s article. How would Barr know that this was the statute that Mueller was going to use? Perhaps Barr is just better at researching than people at Lawfare and Just Security.
Turns out that Barr’s letter was not the first instance of 1512. In fact, from my findings, the first instance was on October 10, 2017 when the Brookings Institution wrote “Presidential Obstruction of Justice: The Case of Donald J. Trump.” They were so adamant in their findings that they even provided an updated copy of the report on August 22, 2018. Each report has an appendix which provides a very detailed timeline of the Russian Collusion throughout the campaign. It excludes any exculpatory information like how Steele was an FBI CHS who was also hired by Fusion GPS who was being paid by law firm Perkins Coie who was being paid by the DNC. Sounds like the media script and Volume 1 of the Mueller Report. In fact, when you compare the Mueller Report to the Brookings Report, they are pretty similar. If you have some free time, scroll through the appendix because it is probably one of the more detailed timelines out there.
Brookings even laid out the road map for Mueller to get Trump impeached. While everyone is ragging on Mueller for deferring the referral to Barr, check what Brookings suggested in the October 2017report.
Mueller did not follow the road map, instead he referred it to Barr who had already shaped his opinion on 1512. It is comical as well because the Brookings report even had called for the obstruction to lead to impeachment five months after Mueller was appointed. Just goes to show how much power and influence these think tanks have over our current lives. While the Atlantic Council has been pumping out the Russia Collusion one sided story, it looks like Brookings is the part taking on the Obstruction.
Since this topic is about the Brookings report, I wanted to just show how tied in these think tanks are with the Obama and the Clintons. The current president is John R. Allen who came out of retirement to lead Obama’s Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The former president of Brookings is Strobe Talbott. If you are unfamiliar with Strobe, he has a long history with Bill Clinton when they first became friends while studying at Oxford University. He was then Bill Clinton’s Secretary of State from 1994-2001. To continue the apparent incest among the political elite, Talbott is married to Brooke Shearer. Why is that important? Brooke Shearer is the twin sister of Cody Shearer. Cody Shearer along with Sidney Blumenthal had passed memos to Jon Winer at the State Department. Winer then passed them to Steele. As a little fun fact, while we think that Buzzfeed had published all the dossier entries, per the Grassley-Graham Memo, this dossier entry was not released which makes one wonder how many we haven’t seen.
Just to sum things up, you can see how many of these players have skin in the game. You can also see how much of this is absolute nonsense. At the end of the day, you can see how vast and expansive OSINT can be as I had not seen the Brookings report until accidentally stumbling into it. With Trump cleared from both ends, he has been ramping up his counter attack. Say what you want about Mueller, but as evidenced by what Brookings wanted him to do, he defied them. Maybe it is time to rethink?
Side Note: I am going to post a few interesting tidbits from the Appendix.
